Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) commonly clench and grind their teeth, necessitating some sort of oral appliance. For patients who are intolerant of the c-pap, an Mandibular Advancement device (MAD) can move the lower jaw forward, opening the airway, and facilitating breathing during sleep.
Multiple appliance designs are available, and depending on the severity and nature of the apnea, Dr. Brown can determine the best options. Two devices she commonly recommends are the Pantera device (link to Pantera) due to it’s compact size or the Apnodent device (link to ApnoMed device) because it is the only FDA approved appliance shown to discourage the bite changes commonly associated with devices to manage sleep apnea.
Once Dr. Brown fits you for an oral appliance for sleep apnea, she will follow your bite closely and intervene early if your bite begins to change or pose a threat to the chewing system.
